Dear Members, Associates, and Collegues,

I trust you and your family are fine amid Covid-19 outbreak and pandemic.

I am glad to inform you that I was appointed as the 10th Chairman of Korean Chamber of Commerce in Singapore(“Kocham”) in April 2020, succeeding former Chairman Mr. Bong Se Jong who served during last 4 years. I highly appreciate his excellent leadership and strong contribution to Kocham and Korean Community in Singapore.

Unfortunately, I could not have inaugurated in April due to Covid-19 outbreak, and circuit breaker, and could not inform you of the change of Kocham leadership in time.

As you may aware, since Kocham was set up in 1997 year, it has contributed to supporting members’ business promotion in Singapore and the South East Asia region, and bridging business relationship between Singaporean and Korean companies and associates.

I am sure trading and business partnerships between Singaporean and Korean companies will grow up fast with both countries’ strong support.

During the circuit breaker time, Kocham organised a task team ‘Covid-19 Help Desk’ consisting of a few professional members including lawyer, banker, and consultant.

‘Covid-19 Help Desk’ provided all members with one stop service of sharing and updating government’s advisories and guidelines on real time basis and advising and delegating members for their actual benefits.

In August, Kocham submitted an appeal letter to MTI, MND, MOM, EDB, BCA for seeking for fresh financial support for EP, and SP holders, less revenues, and new dormitories construction on behalf of Korean construction companies who are suffering from Covid-19 disruptions. But not limited to I will try to extend Kocham’s support to other industries.

I regret to inform you that Kocham decided to cancel ‘ 2020 Annual Charity Golf & Gala Dinner ‘ in September due to Covid-19 pandemic, however Kocham will continue charity and initiate CSR as it has been committed to SPD and other organisations.

Kocham’s Annual Charity Golf & Gala Dinner has been recognised as one of the most distinguished events among foreigners’ events in Singapore in terms of exploring opportunities of business and friendship among Singaporean, Korean, and global participants.

Under current tough business environment along with prolonged Covid-19 pandemic, Kocham will diligently support all members for sustainable business and business transformation with higher productivity and innovation. Kocham is also planning a few virtual events this year like webinars with prominent civil servants, scholars, business leaders, and special event for young professionals.

Please note Kocham moved office to Korean Community Centre at Tanjong Pagar as of August 24, 2020.  

Kocham is running with support of all members, and I earnestly seek for your continuous support including annual fee, and voluntary donations.

친애하는 회원사, 단체, 동료 여러분,

코로나가 창궐하고 지속되는 엄중한 상황이지만 귀하와 가족 모두 평안하시리라 믿습니다.

저는 2020년 4월부로 싱가포르 한국상공회의소(“코참”) 의 제10대 회장으로 선출되었음을 알려드리게 되어 기쁘게 생각합니다. 선임 봉세종 회장께서 4년간 봉임하시면서 탁월하신 리더십으로 코참 및 싱가포르 한인사회에 많은 공헌을 하셨습니다. 불행히도 Circuit Breaker 발동과 지속되는 코로나 사태로 저는 취임식을 하지 못했고, 코참의 지도층 변경에 대해서도 제때 통보 드리지 못한 점을 유감스럽게 생각합니다.

주지하시는 것처럼 코참은 1997년에 설립된 이후 지금까지 회원사들의 싱가포르 및 동남아 비즈니스 활성화를 지원해왔고, 싱가포르 기업과 한국 기업 간 비즈니스 관계 증진을 위한 가교 역할을 해왔습니다. 저는 싱가포르 기업과 한국 기업 간 교역 및 비즈니스가 양국의 강력한 지원으로 빠른 속도로 성장할 것으로 확신합니다.

지난 Circuit Breaker 기간 중에 코참에서는 변호사, 은행원, 컨설턴트 등 전문가로 구성된 ‘코로나 Help 데스크’를 신설하여 운영하였습니다. 본 Task Team 은 코로나 사태와 관련한 싱가포르 정부의 새로운 규정과 행동 강령을 실시간으로 공유하고 자문해 주었으며, 회원사들이 실질적으로 혜택을 받을 수 있도록 지원하였습니다.

8월에 코참은 한국건설사들을 대표해서 통상산업부, 국가개발부, 노동부, 경제개발청, 건설청 등 관련 부처에 EP 및 SP 소지자 급여 지원, 건설사 매출 지원, 그리고 외국인 근로자 숙소 조성비용 지원 등을 요청하였습니다. 앞으로 다른 산업분야에도 지원이 확대될 수 있도록 지속적인 노력을 경주할 예정입니다.

저는 금년 9월에 예정되었던 코참의 ‘ 2020 자선골프 및 갈라디너 ‘ 행사가 코로나 사태 장기화로 취소되었음을 유감스럽게 생각합니다. 그러나 코참이 SPD(싱가포르 장애인협회) 외 다른 단체들에게 약속한 대로 자선과 사회봉사활동은 지속할 예정입니다. 코참의 ‘ 자선골프 및 갈라디너 ‘ 행사는 싱가포르 내 외국인 행사 중 가장 수준이 높고, 싱가포르-한국-글로벌 참석자들 간 친목을 도모하고 비즈니스를 활성화하는 최고의 이벤트로 인정받고 있습니다.

코참은 장기화되는 코로나 사태로 비즈니스 환경이 더 악화될 것으로 전망하며 이에 선제적으로 대응하기 위해 회원사들의 지속 가능한 사업과 혁신을 지원할 것입니다. 그리고 금년 중 비대면 행사를 확대할 예정입니다. 정부 요원, 학자, 업계 리더 등 저명인사들을 모시고 웨비나를 추진하고, 젊은 전문가들을 위한 영프로페셔날 이벤트도 개최할 예정입니다.

코참은 한인회와 시너지 확대를 위해서 2020.8.24 부로 사무국을 한인회 빌딩 4층으로 이전하였습니다.
